What can an IT specialist contribute to a Digital Health company?
by Matheus Marabesi, March 3, 2021
Hello there, my name is Matheus (or Marabesi, as people know me in the tech community), and I’ve been working at Persei vivarium for the past year. Previously I worked in different types of applications for different businesses such as educational platforms, Big Data/visualization, and accounting.
Nowadays I am working on different projects across Persei and enjoying the experience. Each day we on the tech team face a different challenge. The ones I enjoy the most are related to data. We know that handling big datasets is not an easy problem to solve; it requires powerful machines for processing and algorithm optimizations in order to run efficiently. In the clinical field, the management of these data is key for the development of different projects such as clinical trials, patient registries, patient follow-up platforms, and so on.
To do this job, as much as possible on a daily basis we try to follow the scrum methodology to implement new features and maintain the existing projects. Persei has an interesting tech stack, just to name a few technologies that we use every day:
- JavaScript (client and node.js for the server side)
- PHP
- React Native
- Redis
- ReactJS
- MySQL
- Docker
- GitLab
- AWS
More recently we started to shift gears towards independent services. That is, we started to explore more technologies such as mongoDB and different approaches to deploying applications in the cloud. There are improvements we have made to speed up and deploy apps into production with more confidence, GitLab has been of great help in that sense, since we now use its CI/CD and other DevOps features. For our clients it means faster deliveries, and higher quality, be it a new feature or an improvement in the existing ones.
Besides the technical part, Persei has a good mix of people from different countries that in my opinion is really helpful in developing international projects and adapting our platforms to the market needs. In this sense, it’s amazing to see how with our work we impact the daily lives of healthcare professionals and patients, providing insights into the clinical data.
All in all, the technical challenges are growing and Persei is a place where we can share our thoughts, work as a team, learn new things, and sometimes push the limits of the technology that we use every day.
