Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming every industry, and healthcare is no exception.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0In 2024, we discussed the role of\u00a0<\/span>AI in healthcare<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and the potential this technology offers in research, prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. By 2026, its value and possibilities are undeniable, but the focus of the conversation has shifted.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Today, there are numerous use cases, ranging from diagnosis to healthcare management, as highlighted by\u00a0<\/span>WHO Europe<\/span><\/a>. This reflects how\u00a0<\/span>AI in healthcare has moved from the experimental stage to implementation.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span>The challenge now is to deploy it safely, validate it, integrate it into clinical practice, and generate real value.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Research, Prevention, and Diagnosis<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n AI continues to strengthen its role in research by accelerating knowledge generation and the development of new medicines.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0In 2026, agencies such as the\u00a0<\/span>EMA and the FDA established common principles for its use throughout the medicinal product lifecycle, including research<\/span><\/a>. This shows that AI is evolving from an isolated tool into an accepted and integrated component of regulatory processes.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Meanwhile, the use of AI to support\u00a0<\/span>diagnosis, particularly in medical imaging, is one of its most established applications in healthcare<\/span><\/b>, as noted by\u00a0<\/span>Spain\u2019s Ministry of Health<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Treatment and Disease Management<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n One of the most significant developments has been the use of\u00a0<\/span>AI to improve healthcare efficiency<\/span><\/b>\u00a0through generative AI tools for clinical documentation, automated transcription, and administrative support. These solutions contribute to the sustainability of healthcare systems and the quality of care.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Beyond administrative applications,\u00a0<\/span>AI enables risk stratification, treatment personalization, and remote patient monitoring, helping to anticipate potential complications<\/span><\/b>. These are areas already identified as priorities in Spain\u2019s national strategies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n In this context, Digital Health solutions such as Digital Therapeutics (DTx) are particularly relevant, as they make it possible to\u00a0<\/span>collect and analyze data and generate recommendations that improve patient follow-up, treatment adherence, and quality of life.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n A New Regulatory Framework in Europe<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Another key development is the entry into force of the\u00a0<\/span>Artificial Intelligence Act<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>European Health Data Space (EHDS)<\/span><\/a>, marking a turning point in the development and implementation of these technologies.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n Under this regulation, most\u00a0<\/span>AI solutions used in healthcare<\/span><\/b>\u00a0will be required to meet strict standards for risk management, data quality, transparency, human oversight, and robustness.\u00a0<\/span>Their success will therefore depend on their ability to generate evidence and ensure regulatory compliance.<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
