How are Digital Therapeutics (<\/span>DTx<\/span>) making headway in the Spanish Health System?<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h1>\n

Over the past few years, <\/span>Digital Therapeutics (DTx)<\/span><\/b> (<\/span>software that has been clinically validated and supported with scientific evidence used to prevent, manage, and treat diseases),<\/span><\/a> have been increasingly adopted around the world, enabling the development of <\/span>new patient-centered healthcare models focused on the efficiency and sustainability of the system<\/span><\/b>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Examples of this are seen in the countries of <\/span>Germany, France, and the United Kingdom<\/span><\/b>, where their use is not only extensive, but country-wide <\/span>models have been established that allow for the subsidization of Digital Therapeutics through reimbursement<\/span><\/b>.\u00a0Other European countries are beginning <\/span>to implement policies that help to boost the adoption of the DTx<\/span><\/b>, as in <\/span>Portugal<\/span><\/a>, where the implementation of DTx is being promoted using various certifications.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In Spain, no specific regulatory structure exists currently. However,\u00a0this is an emerging sector that has been growing for several years. Recognizing the <\/span>transformative potential of digital technologies in the healthcare environment, t<\/span><\/b>he National Health System launched the <\/span>Digital Health Strategy<\/span><\/a> (in Spanish) in 2021.<\/span> Subsequently, this effort has been advancing, thanks to measures like the <\/span>Plan for Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0Through this plan, <\/span>funds are targeted at innovation and the improvement of healthcare services through technology<\/span><\/b>. These initiatives create a favorable environment for the adoption of DTx, which is reinforced by partnerships such as that of the <\/span>“Consorcio DTx\u201d<\/span><\/a>, whose goal is to advance the regulation of Digital Therapeutics and facilitate their access to the Spanish market.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In this context, they recently published the <\/span>Consorcio DTx White Paper: <\/span>Estado actual, retos y recomendaciones para la adopci\u00f3n de las terapias digitales en Espa\u00f1a<\/span>.<\/span><\/a> This document offers a <\/span>thorough exploration of the DTx landscape<\/span><\/b>, and suggests the necessity of establishing <\/span>specific regulations for their integration into the Spanish National Health System<\/span><\/b>. They offer a <\/span>general overview of Digital Therapeutics, the characteristics that differentiate them from other digital solutions, along with the benefits they provide,<\/span><\/b> which include:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
