Innovation and technology are providing numerous advances in the development of therapies and medications, enabling an evolution toward more sophisticated and precise treatments. Examples include new <\/span>immunological and genetic therapies, and the improvement of those already existing, all in the search for greater effectiveness with fewer secondary effects<\/b>. Along these lines, \u201cthe pharmaceutical industry is<\/span> investing more than 132 million euros<\/b> every year in research and development (R&D) of new medications,\u201d according to<\/span> Farmaindustria<\/span><\/a>, demonstrating the dedication and commitment of these companies to promoting meaningful advances in healthcare.<\/span><\/p>\n From <\/span>improvements in R&D, to the creation of \u201cintelligent\u201d treatments and Digital Therapeutics (DTx<\/b>), the use of technology and innovation is opening up a spectrum of possibilities that will continue to develop exponentially over the next few years, with the final effect of <\/span>improving clinical results and patient health outcomes<\/b>.<\/span><\/p>\n First, the application of innovation through technology is helping to develop <\/span>treatments that are more precise, effective, and with fewer secondary effects, <\/b>as noted by<\/span> Farmaindustria<\/span><\/a>. This is possible thanks to advances in <\/span>biomedicine<\/b>, like <\/span>genomics<\/b>, favoring the <\/span>development of therapies adapted to the genetic peculiarities of the individual, <\/b>as well as the use of<\/span> Big Data and Artificial Intelligence<\/b> which,<\/span> used prior to actual experiments, could help to prevent possible secondary effects,<\/span><\/a> reducing the percentage of failures in clinical trials, accelerating the investigation, and reducing the costs<\/b>. All of this permits the creation of new <\/span>generations of medications that are safer and more effective<\/b>, supporting new responses to already existing needs.<\/span><\/p>\n Another illustration of these types of therapies that are providing new solutions thanks to innovation, is \u201c<\/span>Smart Pills<\/b>,\u201d that have the potential to become a <\/span>potent clinical tool<\/b> for the<\/span> diagnosis and treatment of diseases, with gastrointestinal diseases as an example<\/span><\/a>, by <\/span>facilitating early diagnosis, greater precision in the administration of pharmaceuticals, improvement in adherence<\/b>, etc. This is also the case with the \u201c<\/span>drug-device combinations<\/span><\/a>,\u201d some of which have already been approved by the FDA, and consist of intelligent tools that help to <\/span>control therapeutic compliance, improving appropriate follow-up of the patient and his or her medication.<\/b><\/p>\n Finally, technology and innovation in healthcare are facilitating the evolution toward <\/span>Digital Therapeutics (DTx<\/b>).
