As a result, these kinds of data are becoming a <\/span><b>requirement for all the participants in the healthcare system: health authorities, professionals, industry, and patients<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as they provide <\/span><b>benefits to all of them<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In the case of industry and treatments, specifically, the application of Real-World Data offers enormous potential, from <\/span><b>research to the indications for and uses of the product, along with the actual patient outcomes<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In this context, RWD helps to:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Complement clinical trials with Real-World Evidence (RWE)<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Improve access to markets<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for treatments and <\/span><b>accelerate<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> the availability of <\/span><b>therapies focused on unmet medical needs<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Provide personalized treatments<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Support clinical decision making<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Improve the efficacy of and adherence to therapies<\/b><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li aria-level=\"1\"><b>Evolve<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> toward a <\/span><b>value-based<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> healthcare model<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If we follow the journey that a treatment takes until it arrives at the patient, the first contribution of Real-World Data is that they <\/span><b>complement the data generated during clinical trials<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. In this way, <\/span><b>evidence is gathered about the actual therapeutic effects of the treatments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, reducing the associated uncertainty. This is useful in a variety of diseases, especially in those for which <\/span><b>clinical trials have certain limitations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as in the case of diseases with a small number of patients. In those cases, this information is highly useful for regulatory entities, which are more often issuing<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ema.europa.eu\/en\/human-regulatory\/marketing-authorisation\/conditional-marketing-authorisation#10-year-review-(2006-2016)-section\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">conditional authorizations<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for medications, requiring the presentation of <\/span><b>real-life outcomes after approval<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in order to provide the standard marketing authorization. This facilitates <\/span><b>market access for innovative treatments<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> focused on unmet medical needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once the treatment has reached the market, it is the healthcare professionals who identify which patients will benefit most from those treatments. In this step, the use of Real-World Data can help them to prescribe the most appropriate therapy, evolving toward a model of <\/span><b>personalized medicine<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> that moves from the choice of treatment to the adaptation of that treatment based on the patient\u2019s progress. The healthcare professionals can make use of the data collection and analysis in addition to the information about symptoms, adverse events, and quality of life in order to make <\/span><b>clinical decisions based on evidence<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><b>adapting the therapies to the individual needs of the patients in real time<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This is key to this model, as the <\/span><b>evaluation, financing and pricing of the treatments will depend on their actual contribution to a patient\u2019s life.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is in this stage of the development toward a value-based healthcare model that we find ourselves at present. Technology and Real-World Data are contributing to this change, from clinical trials to daily decision-making by healthcare professionals.
