These data are known as <\/span><b>PROs (patient-reported outcomes),<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> as we noted previously in the article \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/perseivivarium.com\/blog\/collection-of-patient-data-in-the-outpatient-setting-what-does-it-involve-and-what-can-it-contribute\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Collection of patient data in the outpatient setting: What does it involve and what can it contribute<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">?<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What defines PROs is that the <\/span><b>patients themselves are the ones who collect these health data<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, enabling the physicians to obtain real and up-to-date information about their <\/span><b>symptoms, functioning, well-being, health behaviors, and experience of hospital care<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, according to the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/intqhc\/article-abstract\/34\/Supplement_1\/ii70\/6066323?redirectedFrom=fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">International Journal for Quality in Health Care<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Their use, as we have seen, is already providing numerous benefits in the management and treatment of different diseases and, specifically in the area of mental health, they are offering promising results for both <\/span><b>patients and physicians.<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">First, patients benefit, as they can <\/span><b>collect specific data about their well-being, quality of life, needs and satisfaction, and adherence to treatment, in a way that is more comfortable for them<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. This results in improved mood, as noted in the article, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jpro.springeropen.com\/articles\/10.1186\/s41687-022-00468-5\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patient-reported outcome measures for life engagement in mental health: a systematic review<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d.\u00a0 In this way, applying this initiative in different studies, like the one carried out at a<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/intqhc\/article-abstract\/34\/Supplement_1\/ii49\/6561576?redirectedFrom=fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mental health hospital in Denmark<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, significant clinical improvements were detected that were not based as much on the therapy as on the <\/span><b>treatment provided by the physicians, as more patients felt heard and affirmed that the physicians took more interest in their problems<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, aspects that play a key role in the improvement of mental health conditions.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Second, physicians also benefit from the use of PROs and PREs in mental health. The former (the PROs) help them follow the <\/span><b>patient\u2019s status in real time, encouraging monitoring and intervention at an appropriate time.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> This distance monitoring is of great importance in mental health as, at times, the lack of activity by those patients can be an indicator of worsening condition, when intervention by the healthcare professional is key.\u00a0 The latter (the PREs) enable them to <\/span><b>become aware of and analyze the quality of care as it is perceived by the patient, with the goal of optimizing the treatment offered<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. All this <\/span><b>supports dialog with the patient<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> using the elicited information, as well as <\/span><b>promoting shared decision-making and prompting appropriate self-management<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, as mentioned in that article on the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/intqhc\/article-abstract\/34\/Supplement_1\/ii49\/6561576?redirectedFrom=fulltext\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mental health hospital in Denmark.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">With all this, we see the major role played by the data reported by mental health patients, to the point that these data <\/span><b>are being recognized as an essential part of the health care<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0 In fact, according to the article, \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/onlinelibrary.wiley.com\/doi\/10.1002\/wps.20924\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The utility of patient-reported outcome measures in mental health<\/span><\/i><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201d, international organizations have already suggested their potential, and want to continue working in this area, due to the notable utility that has been demonstrated.
