The purpose of this is to use the patient\u2019s own data to adapt and improve research, the management of the healthcare process, the care offered to the patient, and the treatments. All this impacts the health and quality of life of the patients in a positive way.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As we already know, to achieve this we use <\/span><b>PROs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/perseivivarium.com\/blog\/patient-reported-outcomes-pro-and-patient-reported-outcomes-measures-prom-what-are-they-and-what-do-they-provide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patient-Reported Outcomes<\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">) and <\/span><b>PREs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (<strong>P<\/strong><\/span><b>atient-Reported Experiences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), indicators that are gaining ground and becoming more important in the healthcare environment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Previously we wrote about the role played by PROs and PROMs (Patient-Reported Outcome Measures) in this process. Now we are going to focus on the value provided by <\/span><b>PREs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and <\/span><b>PREMs (Patient-Reported Experience Measures<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">), and the differences from the first two measures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>What are PREs?<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b>Patient-Reported Experiences or PREs<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> bring together the <\/span><b>perceptions of the patients about their experiences while they are receiving medical care. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Examples of PREs are <\/span><b>waiting time, access to and ability to navigate through the services, participation (patient and physician) in decision-making, quality of communication<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, among others. This information is collected with validated surveys or questionnaires called PREMs (<strong>P<\/strong><\/span><b>atient-Reported Experience Measures<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PREMs are different from PROMs in their focus on measuring the <\/span><b>impact that the healthcare process has on the patient\u2019s experience,<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and not the health outcomes, as noted in the publication <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><\/i><a href=\"https:\/\/academic.oup.com\/bjaed\/article\/17\/4\/137\/2999278\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patient-reported outcome measures and patient-reported experience measures\u201d<\/span><\/i><\/a><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As such, they are an indicator of the quality of care received by the patient.
